Research Interests

The study of metals in the marine environment with a focus on their distribution in sediments and seawater, in trying to understand the influence of the northeast monsoon on metal distribution between sediment, waters and suspended particulate matter. Rare earth elements are also being studied in relation to metal distributionespecially in trying to understand provenance. The study of the toxicity of metals to aquatic organisms was my PhD topic, and the effects of metals on aquatic organisms through their bioaccumulation and toxicity to physiological systems is still of interest. This work primarily involves aquatic toxicity tests on cultured organisms. Recently research has focused on the distribution of metals between fish parasites and their hosts and this work has provided an interesting insight in how parasites can modify metal accumulation in the host fish.
